The Flying Dutchman

True to tradition at the Danish National Opera, the new season begins with the big August production, this year Wagner's moving opera The Flying Dutchman, about love, redemption and the storms of life. The production has been entrusted to a top team of the best forces on stage and behind the scenes: the director Peter Langdal, the conductor Giordano Bellincampi and a strong Nordic ensemble of singers with Sten Byriel, John Lundgren and Majken Bjerno at their head.

The Magic Flute

Besides the August production the audiences at the Danish National Opera can look forward to our delightful, magical touring productions.
In the autumn the public is invited to an encounter with Mozart's immortal The Magic Flute in Kasper Wilton's staging with the talented Swedish conductor Stefan Solyom at the head of an outstanding team of soloists including the young talents David Danholt, Aileen Itani and Joachim Knop.
The Magic Flute is a true fairytale about the struggle between good and evil and how true love can conquer all.

L'elisir d'amore

In the spring of 2009 love will once again be tested when Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore goes on tour in Denmark with a star-strewn team of soloists and a chance to see Elsebeth Dreisig and Sine Bundgaard at their head again.
L'elisir d'amore is a real Italian comedy from the maestro Donizetti, and is presented here by a team consisting exclusively of experienced specialists in Italian bel canto with chief conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra Giancarlo Andretta heading them up.

Jeppe on the Hill

The Danish National Opera is back with an offer created specially for the many small stages: We have commissioned an opera based on the beloved Holberg comedy Jeppe on the Hill from the experienced stage craftsmen the composer Bent Lorenzen and the librettist Vilhelm Topsøe.
With Guido Paevatalu in the title role and the Jutland Ensemble in the orchestral pit the world premiere at the Viborg Theatre in March 2009 promises the birth of a new classic.
