Jenufa is about a woman who forgives all out of love and creates meaning from her ruined life.Following the production of Janácek’s Katja Kabanova (’13), the Danish National Opera presents Janácek’s third opera, Jenufa, a masterpiece based on the play “Her stepdaughter” by Gabriela Preissová.Leoš Janácek is the Czech Puccini, one of the greatest opera composers. Janácek’s moving music is based on folk tunes from his home country and combines beauty with psychological power in some of the most intense, dramatic experiences in opera.

Jenufa is a co-production between Danish National Opera and Scottish Opera.

Conductor Jaroslav Kyzlink

Jaroslav Kyzlink conducted Katja Kabanova by Janácek at the Danish National Opera ’13 and Die tote Stadt (’10) that won a Reumert award. Much experience with Janácek, i.a. a degree from the Janácek Academy of Music in the Czech Repulic and conducted the operas Katja Kabanova, Jenufa and Šarka by Janácek. From 2012 musical director of the National Theatre in Prague. Future involvements are i.a. the new staging of Die tote Stadt in Tokyo (’14).

Stage director Annilese Miskimmon

General manager and artistic director at the Danish National Opera, Annilese Miskimmon, debuted as director at the Danish National Opera with Katja Kabanova ’13 together with stage designer Nicky Shaw. In August ’14, Miskimmon also directs Don Quichotte at the Danish National Opera with stage designer Nicky Shaw and lighting designer Mark Jonathan who are also in the team behind Jenufa. Most recently director of La Traviata at Scottish Opera and The turn of the Screw, Opera Holland Park (’14).
