Introduction to season 2015-16

Welcome to Den Jyske Opera’s 2015/16 season titled "The power of Love". In the spring 2016 we are very excited to bring you one of the most famous operas of all time - Puccini’s Madama Butterfly- the story of an innocent Japanese girl destroyed by the cruelty of her American lover.  After the fun and romance of Puccini’s La boheme in the 14/15 season and Tosca in the season 12/13 audiences can continue their connection with his most tragic heroine- the beautiful but naïve Cio-Cio San.

And in the Autumn we bring you a rare treat - the Danish premiere of L’amico Fritz a gorgeous, funny , romantic Italian opera by Mascagni, the famous composer of Cavelleria Rusticana. It’s about a single man who is so scared of getting married that his friend has to trick him into a love affair with a beautiful young woman.  Just as George Clooney finally met his match, so does Fritz! There is much fun along the way, gorgeous music and a really heartfelt story about how difficult and yet how wonderful falling in love can be.

Den Jyske Opera is delighted to bring another Danish premiere to audiences across the country, following on from the success of Janacek’s Katja Kabanova and Massenet’s Don Quichotte.  Our summer show is Bellini’s I Puritani. Set in the English Civil War, it tells the story of the love of  the Puritan Elvira for the Royalist Arturo and how politics and family tear them apart. It is an opera that is famous for its fabulous music and the vocal pyrotechnics of its lead roles. It will be an opera not to be missed - very rarely staged and as a result an operatic event that Den Jyske Opera is proud to present.

Following the success of Lev og Elsk – our staged dramatic show starring the Chorus of Den Jyske Opera, we offer you a new show  titled Helte og skurke. Filled with operatic scenes both familiar and new, we can offer you a fun filled performance of beautiful music.

The audience is invited on a magical journey through the tunnel and into Tom's lonely world of fantasy with our childrens show At the End of the Tunnel directed by Gitta Malling. The concept of set designer Christian Q. Clausen creates space for wonderful animated films by Kim Fast. Peter Navarro-Alonso combines Mozart's wonderful, melodic music with a captivating and surprising electronic sound universe. For families with children from 8 and up, the Danish National Opera in co-production with Limfjordsteatret will stage the new show At the End of the Tunnel which is a magical experience.

This season offers a huge mixture of romance, drama and fun all presented in some of the most beautiful music ever written- we look forward to you joining us on tour or in Aarhus for some fabulous opera.

Best Wishes
Annilese Miskimmon
