Head of Costume Department at Danish National Opera

If you feel ready to take charge of the Tailoring Workshop of Danish National Opera, which produces costumes annually for three major and a couple of minor opera productions – then read on here:

The Head of Costume is responsible for six members of staff – two women’s tailors, two men’s tailors, an apprentice tailor and our hairdresser. In addition we regularly employ freelance tailors.
As Head of Costume you are also Costumier. You are responsible for the planning of the productions in collaboration with the stage designers, costume designers and producers, as well as our Technical Director. During the rehearsals you will also be working with the production and chorus management. You will be business manager for the department’s contributions to the individual productions, with purchasing responsibilities.
We expect you to:

 have management experience from similar jobs
 have experience from theatre or opera and historical insight
 have a relevant professional education, for example as a tailor, designer or the like
 have considerable experience of craftsmanship and a broad understanding of artistic expression
 be a structured, able, experienced planner
 be confident in both written and spoken English. Much of the communication takes place in English
 be a positive, cooperative person who sees it as your mission to realize the artistic visions within the given frameworks

Salary and terms of employment according to qualifications.
Starting date 2 January 2018. Interviews will be held in October/November.

Work in the evenings must be expected in connection with rehearsals, productions and touring.

The Tailoring Workshop is on Eckersbergsgade, Aarhus C. The Hairdressing Salon is in Frichsparken on Søren Frichsvej, where the rehearsal halls and workshops of Danish National Opera are also located.
