Engagement på Den Jyske Opera i sæson 11/12: Dirigent på Snehvides Spejl
Andre engagementer m.m.: After his studies in Vienna Joachim Gustafsson has established himself as one of the most interesting and sought-after Scandinavian conductors. He divides his time between concert and opera and is a regular guest conductor at the Malmö Opera where he the last season conducted productions of both Der Rosenkavalier and Dialogues des Carmelites. Joachim Gustafsson has conducted opera and ballet at both the Gothenburg Opera and at the Royal Opera in Stockholm where he made his opera debut with Verdi’s Othello in 2004. Engagements abroad includes Ariadne auf Naxos at Staatsoper Darmstadt and Cosi Fan Tutte at Ulmer Oper.
During his tenure as First Concertmaster at the Gothenburg Opera (he held the position between 1995-2004) he was conducting assistant to first guest conductor Siegfried Köhler in Salome, Elektra and Wagner's Ring. He also worked with Elgar Howarth in Wozzek and Lulu. Other operas he assisted include Lohengrin, Tannhäuser and Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Joachim Gustafsson works regularly with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (the Swedish National Orchestra), the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Malmö Opera Orchestra. He is also guest conducting at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Stockholm, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfoniettas in Västerås and Jönköping, the WermlandOpera Orchestra, the Stockholm Folk Opera and the Dala Sinfonietta among others. He is also continuing a close relationship with the Borås Symphony Orchestra where he was Chief conductor between 1997-2004.
Joachim Gustafsson has collaborated with a long line of renowned artists such as Christian Lindberg, Hans Leygraf, Alexander Korsantia, Stefan Lindgren, Barbara Hendricks, Sergey Nayda, Ann-Christine Larsson, Gitta-Maria Sjöberg, Measha Brueggergosman, Krister St. Hill and Helena Döse. Next season includes debuts with the Odense Symphony Orchestra and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
